For this assignment in my Introduction to Fashion Design class, I was tasked with selecting an abstract expressionism painting, circa 1940-1960, and create a ‘look’ using primarily alternative materials. My artist of choice, Judith Godwin, painted A Study of a Violin in 1954 that was inspired by her friend, Martha Graham, a prolific American dancer. I selected this painting because of my personal connection to the violin and an appreciation for the artistry of dance.
